LPA costs, reductions and exemptions

GOV.UK states that applying to register a lasting power of attorney costs £92 unless the donor gets a reduction or exemption. GOV.UK also states the process usually takes 8 to 10 weeks if there are no mistakes.

That timing matters. An LPA cannot be used before it is registered, so a cheap or quick-looking form service is not the whole decision.

• Check whether one or two LPAs are needed.
• Check whether the donor may qualify for fee help.
• Allow for signing, witnessing, certificate provider and registration time.
• Use a solicitor if there are capacity concerns, pressure, conflict or complex finances.
