LPA fees and timing
The LPA form is only useful once it is registered. Build the Office of the Public Guardian fee and registration time into your plan.
Current official registration cost
GOV.UK states that applying to register a lasting power of attorney costs £92. If you want both a health and welfare LPA and a property and financial affairs LPA, the registration fees are £184 in total.
That is the government registration fee. A provider may charge separately for helping you prepare the forms, reviewing details or guiding you through the process.
How long registration takes
GOV.UK says it takes 8 to 10 weeks to register an LPA if there are no mistakes in the application. This is why an LPA is better treated as planning, not emergency paperwork.
Cost
£92 per LPA to register, with possible reductions or exemptions for eligible people.
Timing
8 to 10 weeks if the application has no mistakes.
Risk
Errors can delay registration, and an unregistered LPA cannot be used when it is needed.
Before you pay for help
Check whether the service is helping with forms only, checking the legal choices, or providing wider advice. Also check whether the price includes both types of LPA or just one.
